A new year, a new newsletter (and blog)

Welcome to the first blog post by Fóns wine

As we step into the new year, I find myself reflecting on the past year, which marked the first full year of Fóns. I take pride in my achievements and growth and look ahead to 2024 with excitement, anticipating the surprises the year holds.

For those unfamiliar with me, I'm Ellen, a devoted working mother of two, driven by a passion for all things wine. In 2022, I launched Fóns to provide exceptional wine services and events. Since then, I have expanded offerings to include sourcing wines for weddings and large events. Additionally, there's been a retail aspect to the business, featuring sporadic pop-ups at markets. Notably, in November, I had the pleasure of hosting a successful week selling wines at the Forest Hill Better Things store, giving me a taste of what it's like to have a physical shop – and it was a joyful experience.

Admittedly, it has taken a bit of time for me to put pen to paper, so to speak, and compose a newsletter. However, there's nothing like the start of a new year to kick off items on the to-do list. While not every newsletter will be as extensive, this one serves as a significant catch-up, offering a glimpse into what I haven't shared and allowing a celebration of the past year in this reflection.

Reflecting on 2023

2023 was marked by events, that sparked the beginning of Fóns. Being deeply rooted in the hospitality industry for years, working with events comes naturally to me. It has been my forte, and it was a fantastic way to bring energy to the brand, and I enjoyed each one greatly, thanks to everyone who joined.

In March, I had the pleasure of organising an event at the restaurant Marcella, featuring a menu with paired wines inspired by the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. July brought another exciting event as I collaborated with a trio of chefs at Forno. The culinary journey continued in September with the enchanting French Fling event at Artusi. Each of these events involved me pairing wines to a set menu created by these talented chefs. To wrap up the year, a collaboration with Barney Pau explored the realms of fermentation and natural wines, with us creating the pairing together based on flavour profiles.

I am thrilled to share that all these events were tremendous successes.

What's in store for 2024

2024 will bring more events! More details will follow soon.

Wines for Weddings

Expanding into the realm of procuring wines for weddings and larger events has been a significant focus for me, and is something I'm going to continue to build in 2024.

If you are in the process of planning a wedding or a celebration, feel free to reach out and visit my website for more information. Notably, I have introduced a budget-friendly consultation fee and offering half price on the initial consultation throughout January.
